Types of High Gloss Kitchen Door
Melamine ABS
We do have Melamine ABS door in High Gloss finish. However, it only available in White colour. Moreover, the glossiness is not as 3G, 4G , acrylic and spray paint door. The only benefit is it is cost effective as compared to others. So , we won’t discuss further into this.
Membrane Press
Membrane Press offers High gloss door in variety colour and shape as well. Although it offers good glossiness, but after years of making membrane press door together customer feedback, we find that the membrane on top can easily peel off. So we decided not to sell this product anymore.
HPL
HPL stand for High Pressure Laminate. Malaysian doesn’t know what exactly is HPL. But you tell them “Formica” , they will know, although “Formica” is a brand name of HPL. HPL does offer some great colours for glossy door. However , in terms of cost , it is not competitive compare to 3G, 4G, acrylic. So it is not widely acceptable as 3G, 4G and acrylic.
3G Kitchen Door
3G glass doors are made of spray-painted glass as the front of the door, which is supported by plywood at the back. The “3G” refers to the shape of the frame around the door.
A 3G frame is made of aluminium, with an aluminium channel that runs around the door. This channel serves as structure that holds the glass.
3G glass doors are easy to maintain and clean as most stains can be wiped off easily without any scratches. Normal activities in the kitchen will not break the glass material but the edges of these doors may chip from wear and tear.
However , since the center piece is made of glass, it has the chances of breaking it especially you have toddler at home. Of course you can request the glass to be tempered but it increase the overall cost of the door.
There is 1 disadvantages of 3G . As we know, normal glass has some green shade in nature. So it is hard to get a pure white colour onto glass unless we use Crystal clear glass. But this will increase the overall cost of the doors.
Pros: Easy maintenance; does not get scratched easily.
Cons: Heavy materials, so strong hinges are needed; thick aluminium frame may appear unsightly. Glass might break. Cannot use as side panel, Expensive to get pure white colour
4G Kitchen Door
4G glass doors are an upgrade to 3G glass doors, featuring a thinner aluminium frame around the glass. It can integrate aluminium handle with a different profile.
These glass doors are currently the most popular choice for Malaysian homeowners who want a glossy cabinet appearance with clean lines and no protruding handles. Especially for those who want a minimalist kitchen kitchen design.
It shares many similarities with 3G doors but with thinner edging . The main difference between 3G and 4G doors is the frameless appearance of 4G doors.
From the front view, 4G doors may appear to be frameless but if you take a closer look from the side, you will see the aluminium frame that supports the door structure. Of course you can request the aluminium to be powder coated but it increase the cost of door.

Acrylic kitchen door
Instead of using glass as the door front, you can choose to go with acrylic as door front. Acrylic is absynthetic plastic, often used in sheet form as an alternative to glass, providing a shatter-resistant surface. Acrylic doors are as heavy as glass door but not breaking into pieces. Acrylic door is laminated onto MDF board. It is then sent for edge lamination to 4 of the sides of door. The benefit of acrylic is you won’t see an obvious trim from front . It is because the trim & front surface is made of same materialAcrylic door can be used as side panel because it is made of MDF based material hence it can be screwed . So the whole kitchen looks identical from Front & Sides
Pros: Water-resistant; easy to maintain and clean; available in a wide range of colours. Can be used as side panel. Side Panel remain the same colour as door front.
Cons: Fingerprints, dust and stains can be easily spotted on its glossy surface because of its nature wihich is electrostatic positive; easily scratched
Spray Painting Kitchen Door
Spray Painting is to apply layers of paint on MDF based door . The process is more complicated as it needs knowledge of chemical , proper facility as well as good skill to make a good high gloss spray paint door. Mdf board is cut into doors and are sanded down and sprayed undercoat . This process is repeated several time to get a smooth surface before they were sprayed with High Gloss Top cote paint.
The benefit of the spray painting door is it provides a mirror-like reflective finish and do not crack, chip or stain easily. The colour can be custom made according to what you desire. For example , you would like to get a Ferrari Red as a cabinet door, it can be done through spray painting door. Spray Paint door is seamless finishing from front to the sides. You wont see any gap or line in between font surface and the sides.
Spray Paint door can be used as side panel as well . Similar to acrylic door, it is made of MDF based material hence it can be screwed . So the whole kitchen looks identical from Front & Sides
Spray Paint can also apply on irregular shape of door. It can also come in matt, egg shell as well as gloss.
