Is Plywood Really Waterproof?
Short answer: not all plywood is waterproof. Plywood performance depends on the wood species, adhesive bond, panel grade and exposure conditions. A water-resistant bond does not mean the wood itself cannot absorb water, swell or deteriorate.
What should you check?
Ask for the panel standard or grade, the adhesive/bond classification, whether edges are protected, and how wet zones around sinks are detailed. Even high-grade panels benefit from prompt leak repair and sensible moisture management.
The practical takeaway
Do not accept the word “waterproof” without a clear definition and supporting product documentation.
